In the Beginning
I picture the stories in Genesis being told around a fire, as are many stories. They're filled with divine oaths and awesome acts of God. This book illustrates the power of narrative to inspire faith.
Humanity was off to a rough start—expelled from the garden only three chapters in, a forced restart in chapter eight, and the general rebellion of different peoples against God. If you think their world was bleak, take a look at the present and realize that nothing about our state has changed.*

I don't know what God sees in humanity, but as the designer of each one of us, he would be the one to know. Despite the numerous desperate circumstances, God brings the people in Genesis back to a prosperous land.
*Minus the huge opportunity of redemption through Jesus.
